AI receptionist for salons

An AI receptionist for salons that books the right chair for the right length

Your hands are in someone’s hair and the phone is ringing. Here is what an AI receptionist does for a salon, barbershop or nail studio, what it can’t do yet, and how it compares with voicemail, an answering service and a front-desk hire.

No card needed. Keep your number. One code undoes it.

The problem

Most salon calls are short and the same: how much, how long, can I come Saturday, are you taking walk-ins. They arrive while you are mid-service, and a caller who gets voicemail often tries another salon or books online somewhere else.

A salon call is rarely only “book me in”. It’s a person, a service and a length.

The calls you’re missing

  • “Can I get a cut and colour with Maria on Saturday?”
  • “How long does a full set take, and how much?”
  • “Do you do patch tests?” at 8pm.
  • “Are you taking walk-ins today?”
  • “I need to move my appointment to Thursday.”

What a missed call may cost

About $618 a month in missed revenue

An estimate, using the missed-call calculator’s sum with example numbers: 6 missed calls a week, 80% who never call back, 33% of them who would have booked, 90 dollars for the average appointment, times 52 weeks, divided by 12 months.

An average appointment of $90 is the calculator’s salon example. Use your own average ticket, and remember a new client may come back. These are not your numbers and not a promise of what any service wins back. GotItDesk is $99 a month ($79 for our first 100 customers): at that average, 2 bookings a month brings in revenue equal to the subscription price, before your own costs.

When another option is the better pick

  • Voicemail is fine if you mostly book online and the phone is a side channel.
  • An online booking page is a good complement for regulars; GotItDesk is for the callers who ring anyway.
  • A front-desk hire is the better pick if the salon has walk-in traffic all day and retail to sell.

How GotItDesk handles the call

What’s particular to this trade

  • The right person, the right length. Each stylist or chair is a column in your calendar. A colour books its real two hours, not a default half hour.
  • Prices from your menu. It quotes your own service menu and the time each service takes. It is built not to make up a price.
  • Your rules, word for word. Walk-ins, patch tests, late and cancellation policies: it repeats what you wrote, and takes a message for what you didn’t.
  • Changes without a call-back. Callers can move or cancel their own booking on a later call.

Set up in about ten minutes, and the price

Paste your website and it suggests your hours, services and prices. You choose a voice, call your new GotItDesk number to hear it answer, and only then dial one code to forward the calls you miss. It says it’s a virtual assistant in its first sentence.

The free trial is your first 10 bookings, up to 14 days or 59 minutes, no card. Then $99 a month with 1,000 minutes ($79 for our first 100 customers). No overage bills. See pricing.

What it doesn’t do yet

Booking-software connections (Square, Fresha, Vagaro, Acuity and the like) are not live, and neither are text reminders, deposits or waitlist backfill: texts are waiting on carrier approval. It books into GotItDesk’s own calendar or your Google Calendar or Outlook, and emails you every booking. We’d rather you know now.

Questions

Can it book with a specific stylist?
Yes. Each person is a column in your calendar, and it books the one the caller asks for, or anyone free.
Will it get service lengths right?
It uses the time you set for each service, so a colour books longer than a trim.
Does it work with my booking software?
Not yet. It books into its own calendar, or your Google Calendar or Outlook. Square, Fresha, Vagaro, Acuity and Apple iCloud aren’t connected.
Does it send text reminders?
Not yet: texting is waiting on carrier approval. Today it emails you every booking and message.
Do I need a new number?
No. You keep your number and forward only the calls nobody picks up. One code undoes it.
What does it cost?
A free trial first: your first 10 bookings, up to 14 days or 59 minutes, no card. Then $99 a month with 1,000 minutes, or $79 for our first 100 customers. No overage bills: at the limit, callers leave a voicemail.
